The Brew Shed got its roots from Terry O’Brien’s Brewers World, which opened in 1988 from the garage of its owners, Terry and Ruth O’Brien. That small shop soon grew into one of the first and biggest home brew shops of its day.

When Terry retired in 2012, his daughter Jane, Darryl, and husband & wife team Colleen and Owen, took ownership of the business. Jane renamed the business to The Brew Shed and, along with Colleen and Owen, played a pivotal role in growing the stores, putting many years of home brewing knowledge to good use.

Now celebrating 38 years, The Brew Shed has a depth of history that few brew shops can match. That long-standing experience gives us a strong connection to generations of brewers, from customers who have been brewing for decades to newcomers just starting out.

The Brew Shed’s longevity reflects consistency, trusted advice, specialist knowledge, and a commitment to the brewing community.

The business is now owned by the McCabe family, who previously operated the local post office. They are based at the Strathpine store, which coincidentally used to be a post office, giving the move a sense of coming full circle!

While ownership has changed, the strength of The Brew Shed continues to come from its people. All existing staff remain, ensuring the knowledge, relationships, and customer care built over many years remained at the heart of the business.

Across every store, it is the team’s shared experience, brewing knowledge, and commitment to helping customers that continues to shape The Brew Shed experience.

Together, the team proudly supports long-established customers while welcoming new brewers into the community.

The Brew Shed has three retail shops and an online store and we pride ourselves on giving our customers the best brewing experience possible. Our staff have extensive knowledge of the all types of brewing and the industry at large.

The Brew Shed has grown from more than just a home brew shop, into a source for all things artisan in the food and drink sphere.
